One of the many businessmen who sold some lands was Harold Schwartz. The practice of selling land lots by mail eventually stopped when Congress banned it in 1968.

In 1970, Harold Schwartz partnered with Al Tarrson to embark on a mobile home park called the Orange Blossom Gardens. Located in northwest Lake County, the site would eventually be transformed into The Villages.

With just 400 homes sold, the Orange Blossoms Gardens didn’t turn out so well. Schwartz decided to buy out Tarrson.

Schwartz eventually partnered with his son. The father-son duo soon discovered the perfect formula for a thriving retirement community. They saw the need for golf courses and other recreational facilities to keep the adults active and healthy. As the years went by, state-of-the-art medical facilities were incorporated in The Villages.

Yes, The Villages is a restricted community. What that means is that the homeowner should be 55 years old and above. The law states that eighty percent of the homes inside The Villages should be occupied by one who is 55 years and above.

There are smaller neighborhoods inside The Villages that allow kids (19 years old and below) to stay for 30 days. This is a great option for some folks who want their grandkids to come and visit.

There are enough golf courses inside The Villages for everybody. These aren’t just ordinary golf courses. These are championship golf courses designed by the best golfers in the world.

For example, two of the championship golf courses inside The Villages were designed by Nancy Lopez and Arnold Palmer. There are also executive golf courses inside The Villages for a quick game.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, I don’t play golf. That’s okay. A lot of folks who moved into The Villages weren’t too crazy about golf as well. Since they had so much access to the sport, they decided to take it up. They found that learning the sport was pretty fun.

Thanks to the golf academy inside The Villages, everybody can easily learn the sport. Even the grandkids can come over to learn it. How cool is that?

#6.  Golf isn’t the only Sport in The Villages       

Now, don’t think that golf is the only sport in The Villages. It’s not. The Villages is a great place to live an active adult lifestyle. Thanks to the year-long Florida sunshine, you can play all the outdoor sports that you want.

There are about a hundred recreation centers inside The Villages. These centers feature recreational facilities for various sports like tennis, cornhole toss, horseshoe, archery, shuffleboard, croquet, swimming, bocce, air gun shooting, fishing, bowling, and of course the famous pickleball.

Speaking of pickleball, rumor has it that this sport was invented inside The Villages. Well, it wasn’t but it’s easy to think that it was because of the 100 pickleball courts inside The Villages.

Some folks even call The Villages a haven for pickleball. Now, if you’re still not familiar with the game, then it’s time you learn more about it. It’s a fun racket game that combines badminton, tennis, and ping pong.

At a glance, you might think that’s tennis but it’s not.  For starters, the courts are a lot smaller than the ones used for tennis. Hence, you can easily get to the ball.

Speaking of the ball, it’s just made out of plastic. You don’t have to worry about getting hurt if it hits you. Pickleball is also like ping pong since the racket is pretty much just a paddle.

Pickleball is a fun game to play. It provides you the exercise without straining your body. It’s a sport that’s very appropriate for an active adult like you.

There is also another kind of tennis that’s played inside The Villages and it’s called platform tennis.  It’s pretty different from pickleball.
